Chanel’s Latest Price Hike: What It Means for Classic Bags in 2025

Chanel did it again. In July 2025, the maison quietly raised prices across its handbag line, pushing the Classic Medium Flap to over $11,000 USD in U.S. boutiques. The Jumbo and Maxi sizes climbed even higher, with the Maxi now retailing above $12,500 USD. Seasonal styles, like the Chanel 19, also saw increases of 6–8%. See all of the details of Chanel's latest price increase here.

Price hikes are nothing new for Chanel, but the frequency is accelerating: since 2019, the Classic Flap has more than doubled in retail price, rising over 60% in the past five years alone.

Why Chanel Raises Prices

Several forces drive the regular price increases we've seen from Chanel over recent years:

  • Exclusivity: High pricing discourages oversaturation and keeps demand aspirational.

  • Rising costs: Labor, materials, and European inflation continue to climb.

  • Brand positioning: Chanel wants to remain shoulder-to-shoulder with Hermès as a true luxury investment brand.

Impact on the Secondary Luxury Market

Interestingly, these hikes ripple directly into the resale ecosystem. A Medium Classic Flap that retailed for $8,800 last year but now costs $11,000 allows resale sellers to raise prices in parallel. On platforms like Fashionphile and Rebag, pristine Classic Flaps are currently selling for $9,500–$10,500 USD, often close to or above retail.

Buyers frustrated with boutique increases often turn to resale for better availability. In some cases, resale shoppers even pay premiums for hard-to-find colors or preferred leathers, closing the gap between primary and secondary pricing.

The Long-Term Outlook

Will these increases continue? History says yes. Analysts expect Chanel to push further in 2026, with Classic Flap retail prices potentially exceeding $12,000 in the U.S. by next year. For collectors, that means two things:

  1. Earlier is smarter. Buying now may be more cost-effective than waiting.

  2. Resale remains strong. Classic Flaps will likely maintain or increase their secondary-market value as retail pricing keeps climbing.
